  • What is it?

Ceili dancing is a traditional form of folk dance that is deeply rooted in Irish culture and heritage. It is characterized by its lively music, structured group formations, and rhythmic yet easy-to-learn footwork. Dances are typically performed in groups with structured formations. These Hand dances range from sets of four to large groups of twenty or more dancers, commonly arranged in circles, lines, and squares. Each dance consists of a series of set patterns and sequences, repeated or "called" by the teacher throughout the dance. These patterns often include movements like sidestepping, swinging, and changing partners. â€‹â€‹

  • What can I expect?

Ceili dancing is accessible to people of all ages and skill levels. We will begin each class with a warmup of the basic footwork. Beginners can quickly learn the basic steps and join in the fun, while more experienced dancers enjoy mastering the intricate patterns. I strive to foster a relaxed and encouraging environment where everyone can feel comfortable, so come as you are!

Over the 12 weeks, we will focus on learning up to three separate Ceili dances. Each week, we will break down each dance into manageable sections, practicing the steps and movements until we feel confident. As we progress, we'll refine our technique and synchronize as a group, ensuring everyone feels comfortable.

At the end of the 12-week session, we'll have a special social dance gathering where we can enjoy the dances we've learned together. This will be a fun and informal setting where you can invite your friends and family to join in the fun.
